Doug works in the metals field creating jewelry, medallions, etc, and is a professor at Tyler. He spoke today about finding and seizing opportunity and explained how it tied in with his life story.
Doug went to school for painting, but came out working with metals. But when working traditionally with metal Doug could only go so far. Then he discovered CAD. CAD helped Doug's talent blossom and his art now knew no boundaries. CAD allowed him to move away from the mechanical and hard-edged work that he was used to creating. It gave him a rush: he could create anything that his heart and mind desired...
Doug's new line of work opened doors that were never there before. He created jewelry for the Jackass series, hood ornaments for wealthy individuals, medals for British royalty, etc.
At this stage in his life Doug cites fellow diabetic metal workers as inspiration and Doug has used his condition to influence his work over the last four years...
