Raymond Pettibon

The last few days I've been surfing the web to try and find style of visual art that was new to me and asthetically pleasing. Well, I didn't have any luck finding something new that I liked so I went with an old favorite of mine...Raymond Pettibon. Pettibon is a contemporary artist who primairily uses black ink and text to create an array of different pictures. Common themes among his pictures are trains, waves in the ocean, baseball, and disturbing or ironic images. Pettibon has a sometimes sketchy or wavy style of laying the ink onto the paper in individual strokes to build up an image. He really uses the movement of the objects he paints to influence his brush strokes. I find this style appealing.
